Trending News: Can life be more comfortable even with a smaller income? An American woman living in India has sparked conversation online by highlighting how a daily life in India are much easier on the pockets compared to the United States. Kristen Fischer, who often posts about her life in India on Instagram, shared why she enjoys living here. “Why would I choose India over the USA? Here’s why,” she said. While she agreed that Americans usually earn higher salaries, she also explained that “prices in the USA are much higher in comparison to incomes than they are in India.”
In her post, Fischer compared daily expenses between both countries. For example, a haircut in the US can cost between $15 and $50, but in India, it’s only around $1.20 to $2.50 — making it “10 to 20 times cheaper.” Internet bills are about $80 per month in the US, while in India they are just $8. She also noted that movie tickets, doctor fees, utilities, and mobile plans are all far more affordable in India, with many services costing only a small part of what they do in America. Fischer said, “Honestly, there are many examples of things that are cheaper in India than in the US. Even though we earn less here, we can still enjoy a much better quality of life.”
Her post received a lot of attention, with many agreeing that India offers a great mix of low costs and good living standards. One user wrote, “Welcome! Food at restaurants is also cheaper. Public transport costs less too. You should make another post about these points.” Another person commented, “You have such a positive outlook. Many people, including Indians who have lived abroad and returned, only complain about the negatives.” A third user shared, “The best trick in life is to earn in the USA and spend in India. That’s why many Indians go abroad, save money, and come back after 10 to 15 years.” Someone else added, “You forgot one of the biggest advantages—domestic help. It’s much cheaper in India, especially with four young kids. In the US, most middle-class families can’t afford cleaners every day. Correct me if I’m wrong.”
